Why Coffee and Business Go Hand in Hand

I was asked the other day why I invite people to connect with me or clients to sometimes consult with me over coffee. It was an interesting question and one that received an interesting conversation.

The truth of the matter is that I like to think I do things differently. Not in a major way but in a manner that allows me to be myself in both my personal and business capacity while still demonstrating my experience and passion for my work. I guess the word that I am looking for is “genuine”.

Coffee for me is a tool - a pleasure - that I enjoy sharing with people in an effort to get to know them, their businesses, their likes and dislikes, you name it, better. It’s a way for me to be transparent with my potential new clients and to show my commitment and patience. It also allows me and my coffee companion to absorb every important detail and issue within a relaxed environment, which I think transpires to the way I do business. It’s about building relationships that pay off in the end. I’d rather put time in to get a great deal that put in minimal time to get a mediocre deal.

I don’t hard sell. It’s overdone. It’s boring. And well, as someone who has been on the client side before, it generally doesn’t get you far, especially amongst an informed audience.

Coffee is a social event. How befitting of social media. Can I offer you some coffee?
