A Lesson on Blogs and Blogging

The thing about owning your own company - especially one that is focused on strategy and consulting - is that time is of the essence. If my lack of blogging has anything to say, my time has been spread thin of late, which from a business perspective is great.

However, truth be told, I’m having myself what can only be described as a lust for publishing a blog post. You know, the pseudo-fame one associates with it that lends one to believe that the person next to you in the lift of the Westin Grand Hotel - for what it’s worth, there are some awesome views of Cape Town from this hotel - is yearning for your autograph. Or better yet, your Vcard.

Hence this post. Hello world.

Jokes aside, blogging is a tough mistress that should be about exciting and moving ones readers through some form of conversation. To get it right takes time, practice and most importantly commitment.  If you’re looking for some real life examples of some corporate blogs who are making waves in the digital landscape, then The Viral Garden’s grading of top corporate blogs (via) is a must-read. His list, included below, was put together based on four key criteria: content, comments, posting schedule (yes, yes) and contextual sidebar content.

Gino thanks for the link to my list of the top-scoring blogs in the Company Blog Checkup series! And definitely interested in hearing which blogs your readers think are the best that aren’t on the list! Which ones are missing?

@Wendy: Thanks for the comment - it’s good to hear from you again! Ah, the sounds of an opportunist - I like it.

@Mack: You’re welcome. I’m pleased to see my own favorites in your list. Two other international blogs that I would also include are GM’s FastLane and Marriott on the Move.
